One of the oldest known wax beans, Golden Wax was first introduced sometime around 1871. There have been many variations over the years, but Golden Wax was also known as Topnotch or Rustproof Golden Wax. Golden Wax bean is a bush type plant that produces excellent yields of golden yellow wax beans. Good for northern climates as well as the south. Golden Wax bean grows 16" tall, compact, and produces delicious golden pods about 5-6" long. Pods are stringless, straight, and posses a rich buttery flavor. Steady and productive. An excellent for freezing and good for canning variety. Great for three bean salads. Excellent fresh or canned. Low in fat, high in fiber and rich in nutrients like vitamin A, according to the USDA. Wax beans boast 21 percent DV of vitamin C, 5 percent DV potassium and 5 percent DV iron for just 31 calories per cup.
How To Grow
Plant in a sunny, well-draining location. Beans like to be watered regularly but do not like soggy soil. Plant the seeds after the last risk of frost has passed. The ideal temperature for germination is 20-30 degrees C. For faster germination, you can soak the seeds for 30 minutes before sowing. Spacing: Sow beans 1″ deep, 3″ apart in rows 18″ apart.
How To Use
Possesses a delicious and delicate butter flavor. The beans are nearly stringless and grow up to 6″ long. This bean is an excellent addition to your favorite salad, but it can also be cooked like a traditional snap bean. Golden Wax Bean is also a great variety for canning and preserving. Whole or snapped beans will keep in a pressure-canned jar for years to come!
