Royal Burgundy Bush Bean
Description & Nutritional Value
Royal Burgundy Bean is a bright, beautiful and delicious bush bean variety. It performs well when grown in traditional rows, but will also produce well when grown in containers or raised beds. The bright purple beans make this variety easy to harvest as the burgundy pods pop on the green foliage background.
How To Grow
Beans should be planted in spring after the last frost has occurred. Beans will germinate best once soil temps have reached 65 F or higher. Optimal germination temperature is around 77 F. Seeds can require 8 to 16 days to germinate, depending on the soil temperature. For continual production, succession plant every couple of weeks throughout the spring and early summer. Plants will drop blooms or cease production in the heat of summer. Subsequent succession plantings may be made in late summer/fall, as long as enough time is permitted before the first frost date.
How To Use
After weeks of devouring tender, young beans, you can often sauté the full-size pods. You can also blanch then freeze them to enjoy throughout the winter. Beans are not only an excellent source of protein and dietary fiber for us, their roots provide a valuable source of usable nitrogen to our soil.
